A Passage to Memorise: Love is…
I usually put a verse to memorise on here, but this is such a good passage! It is so filled with helpful stuff that I have got my son and daughter to memorise it as part of their school at home:
The other day Caleb boasted to his brother and sister about how he was going to go somewhere where they weren’t. My husband took him aside and talked to him about it, and Caleb admitted he was wrong and even said he knew why. He said, “Love does not parade itself”.
All of these little points in the passage on love are so relevant to everyday life with family and friends, especially since we are called to love one another as Christ loved us.
My favourite is ‘bears all things’ – it is a challenge to me to look over people’s faults and things that irritate me, and be loving instead, bearing with them in love.
Try putting your own name in there instead of ‘love’ and see how you do 🙂 I find that quite convicting!
Tip for memorising: when you are trying to memorise a long passage like this, just take one verse at a time. Then you can do a verse a week and you’ll have it done in a month.
Tip for teaching kids to memorise: recite it together lots of times and make it into a silly rhythm. We did that with the love passage, which you can see on the video, and it does help them (and me!) remember it.

I love the videos of your little ones! I noticed the sing-song rhythm. That’s a great way to help kids (and adults) memorize Scripture. And you taught them the reference, too! That’s the part I usually forget :/
Yes I picked up the sing-song thing by accident really when we were reciting it together and I was trying to figure out a way to make it fun 🙂 I always try to get them to remember the reference as then they can find it when they need it, but it is hard for them to remember!
