Coincidence of Nature or Created by God?

It’s amazing when you study Science how many ‘coincidences of nature’ there are. And yet… are they really coincidences, or is the Bible literally true and God created the world by design?

 The children and I were looking at solar eclipses online and came across this video where they talk about one of the supposed coincidences:

 ‘In an interesting coincidence of nature, the Moon is about 400 times smaller than the sun. But it’s 400 times closer. So the Sun and Moon appear to be the same size in the sky – about the size of a pea held at arm’s length. 

If the Moon were smaller or further away, we would never have total eclipses since it would not be large enough to cover the entire sun. If it were larger or closer, then its shadow would be larger, and a total eclipse would cover much more of the earth but we would not see the Sun’s corona during a total eclipse.’ 

In case you are not aware, the Sun’s corona is its atmosphere and is only visible during a total eclipse, shining like a halo around it.

Another thing we were reading was about the Moon. The children’s encyclopedia we were reading poses the question, ‘Where did the Moon come from?’

It says that the moon is about the same age as the Earth and then gives what it says is ‘one idea about where it came from’. Their idea consist of rocks breaking off from Earth and shooting into space after a planet hit it shortly after its formation.

Did you ever think it might be that the Bible (the most printed and bestselling book of all time) is true and God created the moon shortly after He created the earth?

‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters… 

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 

Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. 

And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.’ Genesis 1:1-14

Well what I think is that ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands’ as it says in Psalm 19. These things are not coincidences. God made the world and He made us to have a relationship with Him, to know Him.
