How Much Should We Be Affected by Others?
Have you heard the saying,
In close relationships it is very easy to be influenced and affected by others. That’s a good thing if it’s a good effect, but it is often the opposite.
We can become moody because someone else in the family is. We can give up our efforts if someone else doesn’t seem to respond to them, or we can be influenced by others into bad habits.
The Bible says we are all responsible for our own actions:
’
So regardless of what our husbands, wives, friends or family do or don’t do, we need to live to please God and not let them put us off. We need to think, ‘What would God want me to do?’
We are all sinners, so often others won’t do what they are supposed to! But if we respond wrongly then it can become a downward cycle very easily. And I believe that is a big key to successful marriage: loving our spouse in the way that God wants us to whether they are doing what they should or not.
So don’t let someone else drag you down – live to please God!
