Never Skip Church Except…
I have been trying to write some growing tips on Thursdays, so here is a big one!
Never skip church! Going to church is a vital part of our walk with the Lord as Christians. We need to be fed from the Word of God, we need to be encouraged by other Christians, and we need exhortation, comfort and prayer.
‘And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.’
Hebrews 10:24,25
But there are a few times I would and have, and I thought I would share those with you so you can see my perspective on it 🙂
- when I am literally bed-ridden from illness
- when I am infectious to the point that if I still attended school they wouldn’t want me to go (i.e. vomiting/diarrhoea in the last 24 hours, or have chickenpox or something similarly horrible!)
- when I can’t walk or sit because I’ve just had a painful baby birth!
- when we are on holiday and can’t find a good English speaking church nearby, in which case we do our own service in the place where we are staying. So in reality I am going to church, just a house or holiday church!
- when one of my children is ill enough that they shouldn’t go, so I have to stay at home and look after them (if this happens I try to put a sermon on so at least I have still been fed).
Other than that I never miss church because I think it is one of those things we have to be really strict with ourselves on. We need it, and our spiritual lives need it, and the devil will do whatever he can to make sure we don’t get it!
