On Advertising and Proverbs 31

If you have visited my blog before you will probably notice the adverts that are now on the right! So I thought I had better explain how they got there 🙂

It has never been the purpose of this blog to make money. I want my purpose in everything, as defined by the title, to be to please God, and within that to have a hobby that is relaxing but also can hopefully minister to some people.

Why put adverts on?

So why have I put adverts on? Well the amazing lady pictured in Proverbs 31 who is so hard to be like kept coming up in my head!

This is one of the many good things that it says she does, when it holds her up to be a virtuous woman:

She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. 
Proverbs 31:16

Even though she was doing hosts of other things at home, making clothes and food for her family and working with her hands, she still found time to make some income to help her family. Paul in the Bible was a missionary but also supported himself by tentmaking.

So I don’t think it is a bad thing to earn some money on the side, so long as our priorities are straight and we view it all as God’s money and are stewards of it with that in mind.

I don’t really have the time right now to earn money any other way since I am busy with homeschooling and three young children, but just adding some adverts to the blog that I already have is not very time consuming!

Also when I started this blog it was with the long term goal of making a website that would be a reference for different articles. Any income I do manage to make would help toward funding that, since websites cost money!

Content of the adverts

I have always been put off advertising before by the thought that I would have no control over what was on my blog, which I want to be a place where God is glorified.

So what I have decided to do is to advertise only what I agree with and would recommend. We order from both Christian Book Distributors and Answers in Genesis so I am very happy to put them up there!

My non-US readers may wonder why I have US links, but the explanation for that is simple: I have 10 times the readers of any other country coming from the USA! And also even though we live in the UK we order from Christian Book Distributors – their shipping rate is very good!

I may at some point add a resource page with recommended resources from different places, but please rest assured that I will only link to what I recommend.
