Some of My Favourite New Worship Songs
My 8 year old son often asks me, “What is your favourite song at the moment?” I used to have an answer very quickly. But recently I ran out of favourites as I had played them so much!
Now, however, we have some new music in the house and I have new favourites. They are all on the same CD – Michael W. Smith’s ‘Sovereign’. I love his choice of songs and how they are sung and played, probably because I can hear piano rather than electric guitar 🙂
Here are my favourite songs from there:
Christ Be All Around Me (by All Sons and Daughters)
I love the arrangement of this, with the piano steadily playing through it. It is a beautiful song too. It challenges me to be like Paul who said ‘ for me to live is Christ’ and to be a representative of Christ to those around me. The only time I have liked this song better was when my friend Brooke sang it in church – she has the ability to bring tears to people’s eyes!
The Same Power (by Ben Cantelon and Nick Herbert)
This has a great melody, and I love the thought that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead also lives in us!
‘If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.’ Rom 8:11
Even though I found this song on the ‘Sovereign’ CD I’m going to link to Worship Central’s version because I like it even better.
Sovereign Over Us (by Aaron Keyes, Jack Mooring, Bryan Brown)
If you’re anything like me this will stick in your head once you’ve heard it a few times. I was going through the house today singing these great words: ‘Even what the enemy means for evil, You turn it for our good, You turn it for our good. Even in the valley You are faithful, You’re working for our good, You’re working for our good and for Your glory.’

Hi Rhonda, beautiful songs you’ve shared here. I had to listen to Ben Cantelon’s song (hadn’t heard it before) because I used to babysit him when he was little!! I heard he had moved to England and happy to see how God is using him there. : )

Hi Cathy, yes they are beautiful! I didn’t even realise Ben Cantelon was from America until you said that and I looked it up, that’s great that you know him. I’m glad we had someone gifted come over here, as often it seems to be that it’s the other way around 🙂
Hi again! I’m actually from Canada, as well as Ben. Maybe America means North America (which includes Canada and U.S.A.) over in England? : )
My mom is from England so I have a soft spot for your country, would love to visit it sometime. : )

Oh yes, I was being silly and thought that the .ca at the end of your blogspot address meant California, but of course it doesn’t – it means Canada! And I saw that he came from Vancouver and didn’t realise that was in Canada. We do usually talk about the two countries separately 🙂 The UK is lovely and green, you can always let me know if you feel like coming over – you’re welcome to stay with us. Although technically we’re in Wales not England, but over there I think it means the same thing!

Yes Welsh people might not be too impressed if they heard people calling it England, but since I’m English I’m not too bothered 🙂
