What Is Your Passion?
What do you really love, that motivates you, that you long for more of? In our culture of plenty the answer for many of us could easily be money, career, other people’s esteem, affection, comfort…
But as Christians I believe our greatest joy can be found in knowing Christ, and delighting in our heavenly Father and in doing His will.
I have just finished reading Fanny J. Crosby: An Autobiography. She was blind from a baby but was never put off by it or discouraged. She managed to get an education and wrote poem after poem, then hymn after hymn. She was the author of many much-loved hymns, like ‘Blessed Assurance’ and ‘To God Be The Glory’.
Her delight was clearly in God, and as she finishes off her book she encloses a final poem which she wrote for the passing of the old year, and which she wants to use to say goodbye. In it you can see her passion, and how she wants it to be our passion too.
If you had one last message to tell people, what would it be? She wanted us to live for Christ and to go out and bring in souls, working for His kingdom.
We often say we want to be like Jesus. His passion was to do the will of God and to finish His work, so much so that He describes it as His food! (John 4:34)
In this new year let’s not be so distracted by other things but seek to live for the Master and Him alone!
So happy to read your blog. I read Fanny Crosby’s autobiography also. It is an inspiring book! She wrote many hymns that we sing today.
I’m visiting from Spiritual Sundays. Have a blessed weekend.
Hi Carol, I’m glad you’ve read it too, it is very inspiring! Thanks for visiting 🙂
